How much is a first class stamp?

👉  First-class mail is the fastest and most expensive way to send a letter. It usually takes one to two working days for the letter to arrive.

From April 4, a first-class stamp for a standard letter, which can weigh up to 100g and be no bigger than 24cm x 16.5cm x 5mm, will cost 95p instead of 90p.

At a Post Office counter, you can buy a single first-class stamp by itself. If not, you can usually buy them in groups of several stamps. For example, a set of eight books from Royal Mail costs £7.60.

Buying a book of stamps used to be a good way to save money, but now it costs the same as buying each stamp separately.

Still, you don’t have to waste time and energy going back and forth to the Post Office.If you want to send something first class that is larger than a standard letter, the stamp will cost more.

What can I send with a first-class stamp?

Sending a large letter with a first-class stamp will cost more than sending a standard letter. As of April 2022, a large letter will cost £1.45 in first-class stamps.

For £5.80, you can buy a book of four large stamps, which is still £1.45 per stamp. Royal Mail says that a large letter can be 35.3cm x 25cm x 2.5cm, but it still can’t weigh more than 750g.

You’ll have to pay more if they weigh more. A stamp will cost £2.05 if your large letter weighs between 100g and 250g. Postage costs £2.65 for letters that weigh up to 500g and £3.30 for letters that weigh up to 750g.

You can pay for these heavier stamps at the Post Office either at the self-service machines or at the customer service desks.

A first-class stamp can also be used to send small and medium-sized packages, but the price will be higher if the package is heavy.

• You can’t send a package through Royal Mail if it weighs more than this or is bigger than this.

How to keep postage costs down

The good news is that people who use franking systems will still save a lot of money over people who use stamps.
